Admiral of the fleet is Karen. She has been a critical care nurse for over 30 years and worked for Emanuel Hospital in Portland, OR for most of that time. She is currently on sabbatical to explore where life might take her next. She’s been interested in sailing a long time, after taking a learn-to-sail family vacation in Puerto Rico she and her husband, Dave, bought a Catalina 22. After a couple of racing seasons on the Columbia River and some ‘epic’ journeys, Dave and Karen were ready to step up and buy a bigger boat. They’ve been sailing now for more than 10 years. and continue to learn something new every day.
Dave works for the Admiral. He’s a retired firefighter, paramedic and Battalion Chief from Vancouver (WA) Fire Dept. His interests are varied and include emergency services, community resilience, history and politics, but especially the big picture of what’s happening in the world. This means keeping up with developments in Earth Science and trying to grapple with the implications of climate change, especially adaptation strategies.
